Dinner and A Movie @ The BookShelf Cinema

9:00pm - Pride film screening at The Bookshelf of “The Celluloid Closet”

In collaboration with the Bookshelf Cinema, Guelph Pride is excited to screen this extremely talked about documentary. Winner of several international awards, this film is guaranteed to stir emotions and start conversations and debate. To make an evening of it, everyone is invited to take advantage of the terrific “Dinner & a Movie” special offered by the Bookshelf. Grab some of your friends& family and have dinner in the Bookshelf’s newly renovated Green Room before heading into the theatre at 9pm. All for only $17.00. Whether you come for just the movie or you enjoy dinner beforehand, we hope to see you there!

THE CELLULOID CLOSET is the film version of author Vito Russo's landmark book by the same name. Filmmakers Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, who have previously won an Academy Award for Common Threads: Stories From The Quilt, bring this book to life. THE CELLULOID CLOSET explodes sexual myths and explores how our attitudes about homosexuality and sex roles have evolved through the century. With clips from over 100 Hollywood movies and interviews with many of the filmmakers and actors who created them (including Tom Hanks, Shirley MacLaine, Susan Sarandon, Whoopi Goldberg, Tony Curtis, and Gore Vidal), THE CELLULOID CLOSET is an epic story -- by turns surprising, hilarious, and disturbing.
